Antioxidant Red Grapes - Free Radicals Damage

Studies in the USA, have identified a potent red grapes antioxidant, that is considered to offer better antioxidant protection than vitamins C, E, and beta-carotene.  Researchers suggest that by controlling free radicals, antioxidant red grapes may provide some form of protection, against heart disease, some forms of cancer, cataracts, rheumatoid arthritis, and other serious illnesses.

The team of scientists, responsible for the studies, stated that a substance obtained from antioxidant red grapes, is so powerful, as to have been called super antioxidant red grapes.  The substance was tested and compared with other popular antioxidants, and was found to be stronger.  Therefore, it would be excellent for assisting with controlling the over production of free radicals.

Free Radicals

Another name for an unstable oxygen atom is a free radical. As you will remember, from your school days, an atom has a nucleus consisting of protons and neutrons, around which electrons circulate. All is well if the electrons are paired up, but difficulties occur if an electron is not paired, as happens with unbalanced oxygen atoms. The free radicals pinch electrons from normal, or stable body cells and start a sequence known as oxidation.

The French Paradox

Reports concerning the studies of antioxidant red grapes, may offer some scientific reasoning for the French Paradox.  How is it that the French have a lower incidence of heart disease, whilst generally indulging in a much richer, and supposedly riskier diet?

Red wine has been the subject of a number of encouraging reports, and it seems that its antioxidant red grapes content, may well be linked to the French Paradox, and offset some of the damage that free radicals can inflict.

Healthy Antioxidant Red Grapes

Continuing studies have shown antioxidant red grapes to have health providing advantages.  Moderate amounts of red wine may help, but remember that the red grapes do not have to be fermented, to provide health benefits!
