Benefits of Antioxidant Rich Foods

Although it is well known that blueberries are one of the best antioxidant rich foods, there are others such as beans, that don't seem to get the same publicity.

It may be that beans should be included in the top bracket of antioxidant rich foods, alongside berries of various sorts.  Research into antioxidant rich foods; have demonstrated that beans, some potatoes, and artichokes are amongst the best.

Small red beans, in particular, are up there with the more powerful antioxidant rich foods.  Some researchers suggest that they are considerably more potent than blueberries, of either the wild or cultivated variety.  Of course the blueberry is still a star, in the realm of antioxidant rich foods, but the small red bean is seeking equal billing!

Nuts and Spices

There are some nuts and spices that are well to the fore; in antioxidant rich food lists, including cinnamon, cloves, and oregano.  However, they are used in much smaller quantities, and we must generally rely on other sources to obtain the volume of antioxidant rich foods we require.  Insofar as nuts are concerned, walnuts, hazelnuts, and pecans, are all recommended.

Antioxidant Berries

It seems that the darker colored berries rank higher as antioxidant rich foods than others.  For instance, blueberries, blackberries and bilberries, are rated above raspberries and strawberries.  But if you enjoy and prefer the latter they are still beneficial.

In fact, many researchers agree, that the highest rated antioxidant rich foods, do not conclusively deliver the most health benefits to everybody!  Different people seem to digest different foods - yes, you guessed it - differently!  There is an old adage that a little of what you fancy does you good.  With antioxidants, that could perhaps be changed to, plenty of what you fancy…..But if you actually enjoy the antioxidant rich foods you eat it might also facilitate the digestive process.

Antioxidant rich foods have enjoyed a good round of publicity, so there is plenty to read about.  What seems certain is that they can help you to avoid free radical damage, and associated degenerative diseases.  There is every incentive to seek them out, and no excuse for not getting your share.

Your health is your most precious asset; so protect it with antioxidant rich food.
